Companions of Clare

Welcome!

This is an invitation to explore the possibility of joining a new group of Franciscan-spirited women
based in Maine. The vision is that of contemplatives whose principle work is prayer.

I am in conversation with the Diocese of Portland Maine and together we are discerning the validity of this call.

Because this is a new initiative, a pioneer spirit is imperative.

The primary focus group is women 62 or older, but no one will be refused consideration due to age.

The Companions of Clare cordially invite you for a “Come and See” if you are interested in discerning a vocation. Our Franciscan accommodations can support 6 women. Please call (207) 431-2664 for information and requirements.

We are also available to host private retreats. We have an extensive library to support your spirituality and promise a quiet atmosphere. Please contact us if you would like to come.

St. Clare

Our Life in rural Maine

  • We recite the Divine Office in common.
  • We attend Daily Mass at the local parish.
  • We pray the rosary in common.
  • We respect and practice silence and stillness.
  • We have spiritual enrichment courses via CD
    and DVD.
  • We enjoy simple meals
  • We hold all in common.
  • We follow the Gospel with the Beatitudes as
    our guide for daily living.
  • We use the ecclesiastically approved Rule of
St. Clare and her way of life as a path.

Clare:

Follower of the Gospel and St. Francis
First woman to write a rule for women
Strong lover of Christ and His Church

We, her companions, live in poverty of spirit and material goods, focus on prayer and simplicity
of living, and create a peaceful environment.
